Air Quality

Air Cleaners

The best way to address indoor air pollution is to control/eliminate pollutant sources and to ventilate with clean outdoor air. Air cleaning devices are intended to aid in the removal of these particles and pollutants from indoor air. This has the added benefit of prolonging the life of HVAC equipment. Particles [dust, allergens, smoke] can be effectively removed using Mechanical air filters (captures particles on filter materials) and Electronic air cleaners (electrostatic precipitators charge particles which are then collected on oppositely charged plates). Pollutants [Virus, bacteria, mold, VOCs] can be effectively destroyed using ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) cleaners and photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) cleaners.

  • cleanfxTrane – CleanEffects
Removes up to 99.98% of airborne allergens (ex: bacteria/viruses down to .1 micron).
  • Honeywell – F300 Electronic Air Cleaner
Capture up to 99% of airborne particles.
  • Honeywell – F100 Media Air Cleaner
Up to 85% more efficient than a standard one-inch filter. Fewer filter changes.
  • Sanuvox SR+ UV Air Purification System
Removes VOCs, viruses, bacteria, odors. Improves air quality, comfort, HVAC efficiency.

Air Exchangers

As building efficiency is improved, buildings are intentionally made more airtight, and consequently less well ventilated. Since all buildings require a source of fresh air, the need for HRV/ERVs has become obvious. While opening a window does provide ventilation, the building’s heat and humidity will then be lost in the winter and gained in the summer, both of which are undesirable for the indoor climate and for energy efficiency, since the building’s HVAC systems must compensate. HRV/ERVs introduce fresh air to a building and improves climate control, while promoting efficient energy use.

  • venmarhrvVenmar – Solo/Duo (The Complete Comfort System)
Very Quiet. Ultimate Heat/Moisture recovery. 5 year parts warranty. 120-200 CFM.
  • Venmar – EKO (Lowest energy consumption)
Energy efficient. Quick installation. 150 CFM.
  • Venmar – Constructo (for budget-minded new home projects)

In addition to keeping a house more comfortable, humidifiers can also help to reduce heating bills. Because humidified air feels warmer, the thermostat can be turned down slightly for energy savings.
